My name is Jorge Bonilla, and I am thrilled to be the new Spanish teacher at Oakhill Academy. I was born in Costa Rica. At age five, I started attending Lincoln School in San Jose, Costa Rica, a private K-12 school. There I was taught English through an immersion program. By fifth grade, I came for the very first time to the U.S. and spent a whole summer, By then I had no difficulty understanding and communicating with Americans in English, which was very gratifying. Back at Lincoln School, during my junior high school days, I met an inspiring teacher from England, an Oxford graduate, who profoundly affected my life in the most positive way. Through him, I learned to love literature and the humanities. It was he who inspired me to become a teacher. After studying Spanish-language literature, I embarked on a teaching career focusing on motivating language learners like I once was. Presently I live in San Marcos with my wife, my stepdaughter and two beautiful cats. I enjoy hiking and listening to music, reading Spanish language novels and history books. I am very grateful for the opportunity of sharing my love for the Spanish language with my students.
